Easter is all about death.
Ahhhhh…That is one of those statements which spins heads, lowers eyebrows, crosses arms, and turns necks red. Most people would respond – and they should – Easter is NOT about death, it is about Life – The Resurrection. True…
But it is about death – actually, the Death of Death.
John 11:26, “Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die;and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
The reason we celebrate Easter is because Jesus came so that we would have life – eternal life – in Heaven – with God. In order to have life, death must be destroyed, annihilated, expired, DONE.
While it may be a difficult concept to grasp because people die every day, it is one we can celebrate and embrace. Even though our bodies go into the grave, death is not the end! I like the phrase, “Death died when Jesus walked out of the tomb.”
Yes, Jesus died on the Cross to conquer our sins; but, He arose from the grave to end death and give us life in eternity.
Acts 2:24, “But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.”
