Luke 1:14, “And you will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his birth.”
Some of you opened your eyes this morning to the sounds of excited children, waiting to open long-awaited presents. Some of you hit the ground running this morning, trying to get to the home of your grandchildren. And some of you may have wished to have somewhere to go or longed for a Christmas of the past. To all of you, I want to remind you of the reason for today.
However your life is today, God sent His Son, His only Son, to the world today. He sent Him so that He would not have to separate Himself from us because of sin and death. He sent Him because of His deep love for you and for me.
It’s hard to imagine the tiny hands born on this day were the hands of God; how the eyes of an infant boy were the eyes of our Heavenly Father. The light of the world, born in Bethlehem, born to save the souls of man, came here to be with us, to save our world.
Isaiah 7:14, “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.”
Isaiah 9:6, “For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”
John 1:14, “And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
There are many presents under our tree this year; but, it is important for us to realize, the greatest gift to celebrate is the birth of our Savior; our King; our Lord; and our Redeemer. Rejoice today because it is the Birthday of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Prince of Peace.
